The Vision for Consensus

We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

This sentence (the Preamble) is arguably the most important article in the entire Constitution. It creates the United States of America as a country and states the values that our country and the Constitution are built on. 

These days, most Americans are not familiar with it and only a few people recite it. It is rare, indeed, for anyone or any group to truly delve into what it means to uphold these values in governance. Right now, our system has been cruelly twisted for the profit of corporations and NOT for the needs of the people. As we watch that system destroy the values embedded in the Constitution, we must have a strategy for cultivating the ability to make change now, in our households, our communities, and our governance. 

To do that we must be able to resolve our conflicts and differences of opinion without resorting to violence, domination or control; to create a way forward that benefits all people not just some. One that listens & supports; one that dissuades violence, complacency; one that discredits bigotry & does not discriminate against any person. Luckily there is a system of decision making that does just that called Values-based Consensus. Some people may have heard of this model before, and that's good, but to truly use this process we must all be on the same page, following the same structure and playing by the same rules. 

SO, our goal is to teach 100 people how to use values-based decision making as laid out in C.T. Lawrence Butler's book On Conflict and Consensus that was formulated through his own personal experience and the knowledge passed down for centuries in indigenous culture.
